Over the past couple of years, the Webby Awards have been an exciting time for us. We feel it’s an honor for products we’ve worked on to even be considered for a nomination. But this year, one product snagged a win!
During this year’s Webby Awards, we managed to land four products across five categories with the Happier App receiving a nomination in the Best User Interface category and further winning in the Best Visual Design – Function category!

About Gretchen Rubin and the Happier App
Author Gretchen Rubin is a five-time New York Times best-selling author who is most well known for her framework, The Four Tendencies: a staple theme found in most of her written works and podcasts.
The gist of it is that we all have underlying tendencies that you can fit into four general categories that influence our behavior. It closely aligns with self-determination theory that has been used by many psychologists to demonstrate that human behavior is a result of our unique motivators and personality.
As she puts it, there’s “no one-size-fits-all answer for building a happier, healthier, more productive life.” Rather than offer an inflexible set of concrete instructions to “better” yourself as so many other self-help authors have done, her works dig deep to help readers – and now users! – understand themselves first to best tailor effective solutions.
You can think of it as an effective blend of therapy and mediation – like everything else in life, you need data and a proper diagnosis before you can isolate and attempt to repair or improve a process.

The Happier app serves as an actionable extension of Gretchen’s framework at a user’s fingertips. It provides an engaging, interactive system where users can easily find resources to help them better understand themselves through observation and find tools that can make a positive impact on their lives.
Her Four Tendencies framework has a fault-tolerant design at its core that allows (and often rewards) users for taking a step back, rethinking a solution, and trying something better. The app helps users stay accountable with a habit tracking feature that ties in with relative content and tools that can be tweaked as users discover more about themselves.
The design we derived for the app is meant to inspire relaxation and self-reflection as well as help intuitively guide users through valuable content and other resources – you could even say it’s award-winning 😊
If you’d like to try and be happier in your day-to-day life, give the Happier app a shot on Android or iOS – it’s free to download on either platform.
